Seach field cannot close if empty

First of all, thank you for a great plugin.
The problem I am describing exists only if you want to close an empty search field. If it is empty, there is no way to close it. You have to write sth and select a search result and only then its gone.
Escape key does not seem to work either.
Casn you help please?
