re: license ID: 242994
Hello,
My site at
consists mostly of archived magazine articles.
A page showing all issues of the magazine is at
https://www.fifthestate.org/archive
Each link on the page takes a visitor to a spicific issue. Titles of all issue pages begin with issue numbers. For example issue 404 is at:
https://www.fifthestate.org/archive/404-summer-2019/
On each issue page there are links for all the issue’s articles. Each article page is a child of the issue main page.
I would like to build a form that returns a list of articles sorted (descending) by issue number, i.e. parent title. I tried sorting by parent in my search form design but there was no noticeable effect.
I would be grateful if you could advise me about possible ways to accomplish this using Ivory Search.
Many thanks in advance,
Robby Barnes

I hope you are well today and thank you for your question.
You can order the search results by page title by configuring the search form as described below.
Best regards,

Hi again,
Thanks for your swift reply.
From the documentation I see that for Ordering by parent says…
parent – Order by post/page parent id.
For me ordering by the parent title, not ID, is needed, since the titles of my page parents begin with numbers (issue numbers), whereas the parent IDs relate to when those pages were added to WP, not necessarily in a numerical order.
Do you think Order by Parent Title could be added as an Ivory Search feature?
If not, I would be grateful if you could give me a code snippet that could accomplish the same thing.
Thanks very much for your help so far.

By default, the WordPress orders it by post/page parent id and not by title.
We may add this feature in the future version of the plugin but we don’t have an exact timeline for it.
Currently, you can achieve it by developing custom code.
Developing custom code for custom functionality is beyond the scope of support that we provide here
If you are not a developer then you can consider hiring a developer to develop it for you. You can hire a developer from any freelance site or WordPress agency.
You can also consider us to develop it for you using the form https://ivorysearch.com/custom-work/
