How can I see what search terms people are searching on in Google Analytics?
- February 11, 2020 at 8:42 PM #3906
Specifically, I’m using Ivory Search in Ajax mode on my website. People enter search terms into the Ivory Search control and get results back, then click on a link in the search results. How can I see in Google Analytics either (a) what search term they entered or (b) what link they click on from the search results in Ivory Search?
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I hope you are well today and thank you for your question.
Currently, the plugin does not track it but I will add this feature in the future version of the plugin ASAP.
Best regards,

Thanks. This is a critically important feature, since I routinely get a lot of important data by seeing what visitors are currently search for. I can’t emphasize enough how important this is for the success of my site.
In lieu of a future feature, what is the URL pattern that the control calls whenever doing an ajax lookup?
For example, if you’re using a particular path with a particular querystring parameter, I might be able to do a search in Google Analytics for that pattern… at least in the meantime while waiting on the new feature to come out.
Thanks again.

Hello! In searching the forum, I found I had a similar question as WTJChas.
@Ivory Search: You mentioned you were looking to add this feature — analytics on AJAX searches — in a future version of the plugin, and I wanted to see if that was the case or if that’s still in progress.
Appreciate your time.

Yet it is not in the progress and currently I don’t have any ETA for it.

Request Method: POST
s: searchstring

Hi,
Does that mean there is some integration available? Right now Ivory search shows the following events:
– Ivory Search – Default (plenty of visits)
– Ivory Search – 1010 (very few visits)
The only search form we have is called “Default Search Form” and has ID 1010. I am afraid the first event might be false positive. What do you think? There is also no information of the search terms. Has there been any development on this?
Many thanks!

PS. I forgot to add that the search form is only Ajax and is not submitable. That is, results are previewed only in the dropdown section.

Yes, in the latest version of the Ivory Search plugin I have implemented Google Analytics to track searches.
Right now Ivory search shows the following events:
– Ivory Search – Default (plenty of visits)
– Ivory Search – 1010 (very few visits)
The only search form we have is called “Default Search Form” and has ID 1010. I am afraid the first event might be false positive. What do you think? The first event is from the default WordPress search form and the second one is from the search form that you have implemented from Ivory Search plugin.
There is also no information of the search terms. Has there been any development on this?
If you click on the above events then you will find the search terms.
