Hello. My users must be able to search for a unique library reference code with the format: E.202[26] (the numbers vary, but always E.xxx[xx]). This is a format for a particular library institution, so I can’t change it.

But the search function will not find the code, even if it’s between quote marks (i.e., I ask it to find the whole string, which works with simple text string searches).

Fuzzy matching is set to whole. I’ve tried partial and anywhere, and it doesn’t work with those settings either.

It will recognise 202[26], but it brings up all 35 records containing 202, not just the one I want (so I have to go into all those records to find the correct one).

Under Index Settings (advanced) I changed the decimal separator function to “replace with space”, that doesn’t work either: if I search E 202[26], it still only recognises the 202, and brings up the same 35 records.

It seems that it won’t recognise the E. or the [26], and only sees the 202.

I’ve tried using the default WordPress search and the inverted search, the problem does not change.

I don’t know if this is a problem with my settings, or if I simply can’t search for a code in this format (which as I said, can’t be changed). Do you have any advice, please? Many thanks.

I hope you are well today and thank you for your detailed question.

I have tested it on my test site and it’s working fine for me using the latest version of the plugin as displayed in the attached screenshots.

This can be due to plugin conflict on your site so please try temporarily deactivating all plugins except the Ivory Search plugin and see whether everything works fine, and then enable the plugins one by one to see which plugin is conflicting if any.

Also, This can be a theme issue used on your site so to confirm it just temporarily use the Twenty Twenty One theme on your site. If everything works fine then it’s your site theme issue.

      Best regards,
      Ivory Search Support

Many thanks for the rapid response, and for confirming with your own checks that the problem does not lie with Ivory Search.

I checked through my plugins, and after a few experiments I found that the Relevanssi plugin was not recognising strings formatted like my reference number. When I deactivated Relevanssi, Ivory search returned the full reference number without a problem. For now I’ve deactivated Relevanssi, and I’ll speak to them about it.

      Thanks again.

You are always welcome, I’m glad I was able to help you with this matter. There is no obligation but by your kind words I wonder if I could trouble you to leave a review based on this experience here:

      I’d really appreciate that. 🙂

And if I can be of any further assistance please don’t hesitate to ask.
