Synonyms

Hello! I’m looking to use synonyms to provide more relevant search results, but they’re not quite working as I’d expect, and I wanted to see if it’s just user error on my part.

On our website — http://www.leanderisd.org — we have a heading for “Strategic Plan” on our “Guiding Documents” post. I’ve added a “strategic plan” keyword to the Guiding Documents post, along with including it in the post’s excerpt. However, with the “Relevance” search order, results for any post that have the word “plan” in it are being listed above the Guiding Documents post.

So that’s where I wanted to turn to synonyms, to improve the result order for this specific query. I tested it with the following parameter …
strategic = guiding documents
And I ensured the search bar was set to “OR” and not “AND”.

When I search for “strategic”, it does look like the synonym feature is partially working (see attached screenshot with “Guiding Documents” text highlighted in the Branding post’s description), but it’s not listing the Guiding Documents post first in the results, which is what I would have expected with the “Relevance” search order.

Can you offer any assistance on this topic?
